Obituary

Kenneth William Wecht, Sr., of New Providence, NJ passed away at home with his family by his side on December 2, 2012.

Visiting will be held in Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights on Wednesday, Dec. 5th from 5-8 PM. The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6th beginning at 9 AM in the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church, New Providence at 10 AM. Mr. Wecht was born in East Orange, NJ, raised in Union and had been a resident of New Providence for the past 46 years.

Kenneth was employed as a Research Analyst for Alcatel-Lucent Technologies, formerly Bell Labs, in Murray Hill for 41 years before retiring in 1996.

He served in the US Army from 1958-1960.

He was a long time, active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #783 of Summit and a member of the Pioneers Club of America, an affiliate of Bell Labs in Murray Hill.

His many hobbies included volunteer work at Bell Labs where, as an avid bike rider himself, he fixed bikes for under privileged children. He also loved his time on Long Beach Island during the summers where his family and friends would spend endless days.

Kenneth is the beloved husband of 48 years of Geraldine (nee Herrmann); beloved son of Mildred Litzebauer; loving father of Kenneth W. Wecht, Jr. and his wife Tina of Delaware and Kim Iovino and her late husband John of Branchburg, NJ; dear step-brother of Joan Brubaker of Maplewood and Lois Metz of PA; cherished grandfather of Christopher, Kathryn and Nicholas Wecht and Erica, Zoe and Jack Iovino.
