Ruth M. Piccola (nee Smith) of Berkeley Heights, NJ passed away on February 18, 2013, surrounded by her family in Overlook Hospital, Summit at the age of 75. Ruth was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Sam Piccola in 1997.
Born and raised in Berkeley Heights, Ruth or (Aunt Ruthie) as she was known to her children's friends, was the office manager of a local cardiologist in Berkeley Heights for over 20 years. She also was a fixture in the family's two businesses in Berkeley Heights, Valley View Getty and Berkeley Heights Cab Corp. through the 1970's-1990's.
Ruth would spend hours with her grandchildren, listening to their stories of travel, work, fishing and their experiences with their work in emergency services. She often said that these were her favorite times.
Ruth leaves behind three children, Sharon Gill, John Piccola and his wife Rose, Nancy Piccola and eight grandchildren, Bonnie, Hannah, Tanner, Kristopher, Daniel, Brian, Sam and Lauren, and a lifetime of close friends.
A Memorial Visitation will be held in Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights on Saturday, Feb. 23rd from 10 AM-12 PM with a religious service to begin at 12 PM in the funeral home. The family would like to extend an invitation to please join them for a celebration of her life at the family home immediately following the services. All are welcome.
